A study by the National Cancer construct (Nci) was recently halted when it failed to show a allowance in prostate cancer with Vitamin E and Selenium supplementation. Well, while it is true they halted their study, what the Nci didn't announce to the press was that they used a synthetic form of vitamin E and probably not sufficient selenium to make a difference! synthetic antioxidants have already been shown to either not be beneficial in preventing cancer or maybe even harmful, as with an earlier study that showed a higher risk of lung cancer with synthetic beta carotene use.
Synthetic Vitamin E Not the Same as Natural Vitamin E
Vitamine
We have to remember that synthetic vitamins are not the same as the natural kinds, and this includes vitamin E. It appears that especially with synthetic antioxidants and synthetic fat soluble vitamins (A, D & E), damage can of course occur in your body. For example, it is widely known that high doses of vitamins A and D can be toxic, but did you know that most studies showing this toxicity were with the synthetic versions? They also often used vitamin A or vitamin D in isolation, and these nutrients often occur together in nature and seem to work together. If you take vitamin A with vitamin D, as in plainly occurring cod liver oil, you can take more without any toxicity.
Natural Vitamin E Boosts Immune Function
The synthetic version of vitamin E has a "dl-" in the name, as in dl-alpha tocopherol acetate that they used in this study, so make sure and stay away from that. Natural Vitamin E, on the other hand, has been shown in many studies to boost immune function and that of policy helps safe you from cancer. Selenium has also been shown in many studies to help your immune system and also your detoxification system, helping your body get rid of chemicals that can cause cancer. If they did this study over again, but used a necessary number of selenium along with sufficient natural vitamin E, I have a feeling they would get very distinct results.
This study of course only proves once again that anything with ties to the pharmaceutical commerce can of course come up with a study that proves that vitamins and minerals are ineffective against all sorts of diseases, when the facts show quite the opposite to be the case. All the time check out studies thoroughly before believing what you read!
Look for Vitamin E with All 8 Components
In the case of vitamin E we propose that you look for a stock containing all 8 of the tocopherols and tocotrienols. Most vitamin E products are only the alpha tocopherol, which is of course only one part of natural vitamin E. Both gamma tocopherol and tocotrienols have been shown to have very leading functions and if you supplement with only the alpha tocopherol, you will be missing out.
